You Are What You Eat-Solids

We may find in the long run that tinned food is a deadlier weapon than the machine-gun.- George Orwell
You ever heard of the Ronald McDonald house?  Of course you have!  It’s the place where Ronald helps to take care of sick children.  You ever heard of the hospital?  Of course you have!  It’s the place where Ronald sends the people that he made, sick!! (insert Krusty laugh)  You are what you eat.  We’ve heard that phrase uttered infamously over our lifetimes.  Truly, it’s a basic statement.  What does it mean though?  What kind of foods are you putting into your body?  Seriously.  Take a moment and think about it.  Think about dinner last night.  Think about your grocery list.  Think about your eating habits as a young adult.  What were you taught about nutrition?
What’s harmful?  PROCESSED FOODS.  Too much SUGAR AND SALT.  Fast foods.  Alcohol.  Too much meat.  Look, I can go on and on about what’s healthy to eat, but you’ve got the basics.  Stuff put in a can, or tin as Orwell put it, AND packaged foods in general are bad for a myriad of reasons: trans fats-hydrogenated and brominated oils, MSG, refined grains, high fructose corn syrup, salt-do I really need a link for that?, BHA &BHT, and of course, artificial colors and flavors which can be made from tars and dyes to coal derivatives.

Don't do it Cookie Monster!!!

What’s ‘healthy?’  Almost anything that’s plant based.  Choose meats that haven’t been processed and hormone induced, and fruits and veggies that haven’t been layered with pesticides.  Generally speaking, fruits and veggies have more fiber, so they move through your digestive tract a bit quicker than meats and especially processed foods.  Fats slow digestion, so be mindful of that as well.
What the heck can I eat now!?  I’m on a pretty strict income, I/my kids are in school, the assisted living facility is draining me dry and/or it doesn’t really matter.  Wrong, it matters.  First, you can only do what you can do.  That just means that we understand there are limitations.  Some of us can’t shop at Whole Foods or Earth Fare once a week.  However, you can make healthy choices in Publix, Food Lion, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.  So you’ve gotta eat that chicken breast that’s been cloned to be 3x the size of your own chest…for now, I repeat, for now.  Get it together, and let us help!  At FreePlay, we’re designing a program to help you effortlessly shop for foods in your budget, in your area, that are healthy.  Ask one of the trainers about the program today.

She feels healthy enough…
